Young Adult Advisory Council (YAAC)

The Young Adult Advisory Council is the body of laity that organizes Young Adult and 20’s/30’s ministry in the Episcopal Diocese of New York, develops leadership, hold events, and connects parishes. Some of the things we do include:

  • Supporting the work of Young Adults in the Diocese New York in their spiritual lives, both in their discipleship work at the personal level, and the service to their parish communities.

  • Providing tools, resources, and support to nurture the culture of change needed across the diocese so that all parishes and communities are more welcoming and inclusive, not only for the spiritual growth of Young Adults, but so that Young Adults may be of better service to the life of those communities.

  • Developing a standard of leadership, ministry, and discipleship amongst both the council and Young Adults in general for the sake of our diocese’s vibrancy, efficacy, and spiritual wellness.

  • Organizing the “tent-pole” events held seasonally by the Young Adult Network, such as the annual St. Nick’s Party and Young Adult Reflection Day.

  • Maintaining and moderating communication channels (like this one!).

  • Supporting and leading, as interest and bandwidth of councilmembers allows, new young adult ministry initiatives.

  • Expanding the scope of Young Adult ministry so that there is further representation of 20’s/30’s parishioners and ministers in Episcopal Communities in our diocese outside of Manhattan, where church life is already predictably more vibrant.
